Kathleen Wooton, 48, lost 15 stone in just one year after she realised she couldn’t walk or even put her shoes on anymore. But how did she manage to lose so much weight?
Kathleen was at her heaviest a year ago when she weighed 40 stone.
It was then when she realised she couldn’t dress herself or walk without help.
She had to rely on walking sticks to get around which meant she rarely left the house.
After she struggled to put her shoes on or standing without help, she feared she was “close to death”.
It was then when her sister Sarah decided to turn her life around and introduced her to a new hobby: wild swimming.
Sarah persuaded her sister to join her outdoor swimming club in Durham and Kathleen agreed.
The 48-year-old explained that as soon as she was submerged in the water she felt “incredible.”
Since that day, Kathleen has been practising her new favourite hobby almost every day.

“Wild swimming has 100 percent saved my life.
“My family believe that too because they thought I’d be dead by now,” Kathleen explained.
“Walking up to the water for the first time, I was in tears.
“I was crying because I was ashamed about the way I looked and felt.
“When I got in, it was like a huge fog had lifted off my head and I felt like my body moved again. It was surreal,” she said.
Since then, Kathleen has lost 15 and a half stone.
Now, her new goal is to swim the English Channel and the icy cold waters of Antarctica.
“Water holds anyone, no matter your size or shape. It’s incredible. I want to keep motivating other people and helping others through my journey,” she explained.
She said: “If I hadn’t found wild swimming, I wouldn’t be here now. I wouldn’t be alive or I’d be close to dying.”
“I did it for the first time at Seaham Marina. I fell over on the sand numerous times and struggled massively but once I was in the water, I thought ‘oh my goodness, I’m not in pain’,” Kathleen recalled.
“When my body was in the water, it felt incredible. There’s no other word.”
As well as swimming, Kathleen followed a healthy diet plan and lifestyle routine.
