Adam Woodyatt, 52, has played Ian Beale on Eastenders on and off for more than 36 years. The actor joined ITV’s Lorraine on Tuesday to discuss his latest career endeavours after leaving the BBC One soap and conversation turned to his weight loss. Ian recently changed his life and appearance by undertaking a healthy diet and fitness regime.
Lorraine remarked: “You look terrific – you’ve had a total transformation, how did you do it?”
“Just changed my diet,” Adam replied.
“See, that’s it; they write books, they do things, actually it’s as simple as that,” the host continued.
A picture then came up on the large screen behind them in the studio and Lorraine asked: “Who’s that now?”
The actor explained: “That’s me… when I looked like Jim Davidson’s long lost son.”
Before the interview concluded, Lorraine added: “You’re looking so well…cycling, eating, well done doing all of these things, looking so happy.”
And Adam said: “I am [happy].”
Adam’s change in diet came in 2017 when he was training to run the London Marathon, Express.co.uk previously reported.
Running is a well known way to lose weight and burn calories but combined with healthy eating it can increase weight loss.
For Adam, he took it to the next level and reportedly managed to run 14 miles in one day in order to prepare for the 26-mile challenge.
Then in 2019, Adam dusted off his running shoes once more to complete the marathon again.
As a result, the soap star shed several stone.

In terms of his diet, Adam has previously opted for a no-carb food plan.
Appearing on The One Show last year, Adam’s son said: “He’s on a no-carb diet and I’m telling him, ‘you need to start carb-loading a couple of days before.’”
Eating foods low in carbs has been prove to help dieters lose weight.
And experts have said that low-carb diets can cause someone to lose more weight than those who opt for low-fat diets, especially in the short term.
Foods which are low in carbs include meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, nuts, tofu and eggs.
And those on a low-carb diet should avoid foods including bread, pasta, rice and sweet treats.
Nowadays, Adam’s main form of exercise is cycling and walking.
He regularly posts images of himself out on a cycle ride or walking in some scenic location to his Instagram account.
In one post he was seen in the middle of a field and the caption read: “Afternoon cycling in North Yorkshire Moors, you can just see the White Horse in the distance.”
On another occasion, he snapped himself smiling in a fluorescent green top on his bike in the middle of a rapeseed field, in Norfolk.
When he’s not out on his bike, Adam likes to enjoy the countryside and coastline with a walk.
Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
