Tyson Fury weight loss: Boxing champion reveals how he lost weight in lockdown

Tyson Fury looked healthy and well today, although he bemoaned the postponement of boxing matches. He and his manager appeared on GMB to chat about the sport.

Susannah asked Tyson how he managed to stay in shape during lockdown, as he pro boxer was looking trim and well.

She said: “Without a goal to work towards, it must be quite hard to maintain that training regime.

“But, it looks to me like you might have managed to resist.”

Tyson replied: “Yes, I have. When it was lockdown and I wasn’t able to do much besides an hour day exercise outside I was actually training about five times a day.”

The boxer was doing multiple workouts a day, although he describe the regimen as “crazy”.

“I’d do three or sessions in the house or garden outside.

“It was a crazy time for me, I was up to five sessions a day,” Tyson went on.

“I think I lost the plot with it, I went OTT fitness mode and I managed to keep the weight down.

I box at around 19 stone 4 or 5 pounds and I was walking around at about 18 stone 12 pounds.”

Speaking on his mental health he said: “I’m keeping my fingers crossed, I’m staying very, very positive about fighting this year.

Tyson has lost huge amounts of weight in the past as he gets fight ready.

The WWE fighter lost an amazing 10 stone on the keto diet.

What is Tyson Fury’s keto diet to slim down so drastically?

His nutritionist Greg Marriott told Sky Sports: “Tyson needs to be on 3,500 calories a day but, when he’s expending 2,000 calories in the gym, he will need to be on 5,500 calories a day.

“You can then start cutting weight – this is the healthy way to do it.”

The keto diet sees followers get the majority of their calories from fat.

Eating this ways should temporarily change the body’s metabolism to burn fat. 

The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, adequate-protein and low-carbohydrate diet.

The diet was originally devised as an effective treatment for epilepsy patients and was first conceptualised in the 1920s.

About half of the children and young people with epilepsy who have tried this diet saw the number of seizures drop by at least half, and the effect continues after resuming to a regular diet.
