Susanna Reid is a broadcaster on Good Morning Britain who works across from Piers Morgan, 55. She has spoken about her weight loss transformation in recent years.

Susanna opened up on struggling with her weight during the coronavirus lockdown, describing herself as hitting a “lockdown slump” and gaining around one stone.

While appearing on Good Morning Britain, she asked fitness influencer Joe Wicks for tips on staying healthy at home.

The television presenter is no stranger to a healthy lifestyle and has lost 1st 7lb in recent years.

One of the reasons she was prompted to change her life was after a visit to the doctors raised health concerns.

Speaking to Prima Magazine, she said: “I’ve lost a stone and a half and I feel fantastic.

“This time last year, I went to the doctor with a skin problem and he told me I could do with losing some weight.

“It turned out I was at the upper end of my BMI and, I have to admit, I’d been feeling a little heavy for a while.”

Susanna reportedly cut back on alcohol to achieve her transformation.

Drinking alcohol has been shown to cause weight gain and slow down weight loss efforts, experts at Healthline.com reported.

They stated: “Alcohol is rich in empty calories, meaning that it contains many calories without vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients that your body needs.

“This can not only potentially contribute to nutritional deficiencies but may also lead to weight gain over time.”

The experts suggested alcohol can be high in calories which can therefore cause weight gain.

“Alcohol also plays a large role in weight management,” they added.

“Anyone looking to drop those final stubborn pounds may want to consider skipping their evening glass of wine.”

As well as reducing her alcohol intake, Susanna previously said she made an effort to cut back on snacking.

Like drinking alcohol, regular snacking can add results in slimmers eating extra calories which may not be needed.

“It can creep up without you noticing, and what I did was cut out snacking,” Susanna told ITV’s Lorraine.

“I found waking up so early in the morning, and you’re in a sort of energy deficit and all your body can think of is to have toast and biscuits. And you can pile it on really quickly.”

While Susanna explained her weight has changed since the coronavirus crisis began, she has previously praised exercise for helping her stay slim.

She added: “I’d stopped going for a while because it gave me an excuse to over-snack. But the good feeling of doing exercise is unbeatable.”
