Summer Sandwich Diet saw woman lose almost a stone in 6 weeks on How to Lose Weight Well

Weight loss is tricky, so these members of the British public agreed to try diets so others don’t have to. A pair of over 50s managed to lose over a stone and a half between them on two different diets, but who was most successful?

Denise, a pastry fan, was struggling to avoid the pastries while Barbara can’t stop snaking on biscuits.

However, both felt anxious at the prospect of wearing bikinis n their summer holiday.

The lifelong friends and glamorous grannies Barbara and Denise, both over 50, went head to head ahead of a trip to sunny Ibiza in six weeks’ time.

London cabbie Denise was on the Summer Sandwich Diet. The diet saw her eat up to eight slices of bread a day.

On the other hand Barbara was on the Summer Salad Diet.

Both women were following their diets for six weeks. Which was most successful?

Barbara weighed 13st and 7lbs before her diet, while Denise was 12st 12lbs.

The Summer Salad Diet saw Barbara eat colourful salads, lean proteins and healthy fats and whole grains.

A typical meal might be an Asian salad with tuna. It’s full of fibre and protein.

On the Summer Sandwich Diet, designed to fit in with her lifestyle as a cab driver, the diet allows up to eight slices of bread a day.

However, Denise was required to eat lower calorie, light bread.

Experts behind the diet hoped it would reduce other cravings.

So, how did the two ladies fare on their diets?

After six weeks Barbara, on the Summer Salad Diet, lost 8lbs, or half a stone, dropping down to under 13st.

Denise lost an amazing 12lbs, almost a stone.

Denise said: “For someone who eats sandwiches for lunch, for six weeks they could definitely eat them for dinner and for tea.”

Two other women on the programme tried crash diets, including the pineapple diet. 

Housemates Sophie and Zoe were looking to drop a dress size for a summer event. Zoe ate the “Sexy Pineapple Diet”, written by a Danish sexologist.

The diet restricts you to just pineapple for three days of the week, eating up to two pineapples a day.

The expert recommended eating just pineapple every other day.

This is the only rule for Zoe to follow, sounds simple enough, but will a day full of just pineapple be achievable?

Zoe managed to lose an amazing 8lbs on the diet, just over half a stone, in just a week.
