Sheridan Smith will appear on ITV tonight at 9pm playing the role of Kathy Powell in new drama No Return. Kathy’s life is turned upside down when her teenage son is accused of sexually assaulting a boy during a family holiday in Turkey.

Sheridan Smith is known not only for her talented acting skills, but also her recent weight loss transformation.

The 40-year-old has opened up about her weight loss in the past, unveiling how she did it and how she has managed to maintain a healthy weight since.

Sheridan lost a huge two stone in only 14 weeks in 2019.

She announced the news to her fans in an Instagram post, sharing two before-and-after photos.

The actress wrote in a post at the time: “I’m not one for weight loss regimes as I think everyone should be comfortable in their own skin.

“I have lost two stone!”

Sheridan credited her new fitness regime for the transformation.

At the time, she was rehearsing for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph the Musical, which required much movement.

Sheridan played the role of four different characters and a lot of dancing was involved.

Many experts have highlighted the benefits of dancing, including its potential to contribute to weight loss.

In an interview with Health Wellbeing, consultant psychiatrist Dr Jo Rodda said: “Studies have shown that the occurrence of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease can be reduced by exercises such as dancing.

“Not only is it fun, social and engaging, but it’s also a great way of incorporating exercise into your weekly routine.

“Learning and remembering new steps activates many neural pathways in your brain, keeping it strong, active and healthy.”

Sheridan continues to exercise to keep her body trim, sometimes sharing photos of herself wearing sports gear on Instagram.

The 40-year-old also follows a healthy and balanced diet.

It is recommended that slimmers eat plenty of fruit vegetables throughout the day when on a diet, as well as drink lots of water.

Nutrition expert Dr Michael Mosley told Express.co.uk in the past that drinking enough water during the day is a good way to feel fuller for longer.

The doctor shared his own routine when it came to diet, saying: “I try to avoid snacks generally but if I do occasionally indulge, it might be on something reasonably healthy like a handful of nuts.

“My wife Clare makes these wonderful sugar free chocolate brownies that contain beetroot and dates. They are pretty hard to resist but thankfully, they’re guilt-free.”

He added: “I try and drink plenty of water throughout the day and I avoid sugary drinks. I might add a slice of lemon or cucumber to my water to liven it up.”
