Love Island 2019: Curtis Pritchard ‘body-shamed’ over ‘weight gain’ by show’s fans

Love Island bosses were forced to hit back after contestant Curtis Pritchard became the subject of online body shaming. The ballroom and Latin dancer reportedly asked for an entirely new wardrobe because he can’t fit into his original clothes. A Love Island spokesperson told The Sun Online: “It is incredibly irresponsible that any Islander would be body-shamed in this way and we would always discourage anyone from making appearance-based comments that could be hurtful to the islanders and their families.”

Love Island 2019: Curtis Pritchard ‘body-shamed’ over ‘weight gain’ by show’s fans

It comes after viewers commented on Curtis gaining weight since entering the villa in June.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “Most of the Islanders have put on weight since they’ve gone into the villa. It was noticeable in Michael and Curtis, even amber looks fuller but it looks good on her.”

Another said: “Why has Curtis all of a sudden added weight?”

A third wrote: “Curtis actually gained weight in the Villa.”

Curtis – who is brothers with Strictly Come Dancing star AJ Pritchard-  has reportedly gone up two clothes sizes while in the Spanish abode.

If Curtis has gained weight it could be due to limited exercise while in the villa.

The 23-year-old may have also not been able to train as he would on the outside, due to filming commitments which requires contestants to be recorded consistently in order to produce daily content for hour-long show.

“Curtis normally burns off a lot of calories because he’s a professional dancer, but obviously in the villa he’s not been training,” a source told the Daily Star.

Curtis has been a pro dancer on Ireland’s Dancing with the stars since 2017.

In his two series on the show, he’s been partnered with model Thalia Heffernan and businesswoman Norah Casey.

The gruelling daylong training sessions are likely to help shed the pounds.

There’s also been some speculation he could join the professional line-up for BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing, which also involves hours of practice.

Many stars have been known to lose weight while competing on these shows.

Just last year, BBC presenter Kate Silverton revealed how she’d lost so much weight on the show, she was able to fit back into her wedding dress.
