Coronation Street star Jennie McAlpine has shocked fans in recent years with her incredible weight loss transformation. Since joining the soap back in 2001, she has managed to drop three dress sizes through healthy eating.
Jennie explained that her secret behind her successful weight loss journey was all down to “common sense”.
She told OK!: “Ice cream is bad, salad is good – it’s not rocket science.
“If you eat more of the good stuff and take more exercise then you’ll lose weight.”
The actress added that she tries not to stress about what she eats and is happy with her overall image.
While exercise doesn’t result in weight loss directly, it can help to create a larger calorie deficit.
A calorie deficit is when the body is burning more calories than it is consuming.
Jennie added: “A balanced diet and regular exercise are essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle and start your weight loss journey.”
Exercise is an important aspect of losing weight as it has several benefits including boosting the metabolism as well as mood.

The NHS recommends adults partake in regular activity, which can include walking, running or cycling.
Walking for just one mile burns approximately 100 calories, and on average should only take around 20 minutes.
Before starring in Coronation Street, Jennie had a role in Emmerdale.
She has also appeared in shows like I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! and The Door.
Jennie said: “I know there’s a lot of pressure in this business, but I can honestly say I’ve never felt it myself.
“I’m not saying I let it wash over me because of course I”m aware of it, but I don’t let it bother me.”
Another soap star who has lost an impressive amount of weight is Coronation Street’s Colson Smith.
During an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine, Colson explained: “It’s all about keeping motivated, trying to achieve something every day.”
His weight loss journey tied in with his storyline on Coronation Street and the star managed to shed an impressive 10 stone.
The actor also said on an appearance on Good Morning Britain that he used a meal provider to help him lose weight.
He said: “So I have my breakfast and lunches delivered and they’re still being delivered now by a company called FitChef which means cooking basically I don’t think about, I can just eat.”
Colson regularly shares exercise videos online including weight lifting videos as well as running.
