She said: “This is due to the fact it is one of the best compound exercises around as it involves nearly every major muscle group in the body meaning that it will have a much higher energy expenditure – and a higher energy expenditure means a higher calorie burn.

“Start with dumbbells in each hand and work up to using a barbell.”

A deadlift is when the person working out stands over a barbell or holds dumbbells in each hand.

They bend their knees and then bend over from the hips keep their back straight.

Then, tensing the core muscles to protect the back, they straighten up, before bending over and putting the weights back down again.

The move works the back, buttocks and the thighs muscles.
