We Tried Jeni's New Non-Dairy Ice Cream – Here's What We Thought
If you’re not familiar with Jeni’s, now’s the time to start paying attention. The Ohio-based creamery has garnered national acclaim thanks to its high-quality ingredients and offbeat (but still solid) flavors like Fluffernutter Pie, Pistachio & Honey, and Sweet Cream Biscuits & Peach Jam.
Jeni’s is finally dipping their toes into dairy-free ice cream with three new flavors: Texas Sheet Cake, Roasted Peanut Butter & Strawberry Jam, and Cold Brew with Coconut Cream. The trio joins Dark Chocolate Truffle in Jeni’s first dairy-free collection.
Rather than, well, dairy, these batches are made with high-quality coconut cream, so the non-dairy crowd can finally join in on the fun. These new flavors aren’t meant to re-create dairy’s texture or flavor, instead creating an entirely new experience.

We like to taste test things around here, and a lack of dairy didn’t leave us any less excited. The verdict? As long as you’re a fan of coconut, you won’t even miss the standard cream.
Dark Chocolate Truffle
When Jeni says dark chocolate, she means it. Dark Chocolate Truffle has a rich chocolate flavor and a velvety texture. The coconut notes are strong here but it’s balanced by chocolate so dark it gives a hint of coffee. Tasters couldn’t even tell this was dairy-free.
Texas Sheet Cake
Okay, wow, this one is good, like so good I can’t stop thinking about how much I want to down the whole pint. The coconut cream leaves subtle undertones that are complimented, if not eclipsed, by chocolate cake and fudge icing ripple. It even melts marvelously into a delicious, mushy mess.
Roasted Peanut Butter & Strawberry Jam
This flavor is based on founder Jeni Britton Bauer’s childhood love of PB&J and features strawberry jam that’s made from scratch. The flavor was a perfect union of sweet, salty, and slightly tart notes. One taster noticed that it took a while for this flavor to soften up.
Cold Brew with Coconut Cream
The cold brew flavor is intense here—it’s mixed with Slingshot Coffee, after all. Some of our tasters thought the coffee notes were a little too much and that the texture was a little bit icy. Others thought it tasted like a Frappuccino and wanted to finish off the pint.
