Here’s Everything You Need to Know About the New “Game of Thrones” Oreos
It’s been over a month since we got our first preview of the Game of Thrones packaging of Oreos, and as the final season of the show approaches, so too does the release of the Mother of Snackin’s. The long-awaited final season of the show begins on April 14 on HBO, but, fortunately, you don’t have to wait that long to get your House Stark-embossed Oreos: they’re hitting stores around the country on April 8.
The stunning special-edition packaging weirdly takes the classic cookie inside the world of Westeros, a slightly odd product placement (of which there are many this season, but hey, it’s the last season, might as well milk it — pun intended — for all it’s worth). But it’s also, obviously, the essential snack for every GoT watch party happening this spring.
Inside the package, four unique embossments allow eaters to crunch down on the Great Houses that are still battling for the Iron Throne. “Where does your loyalty lie?” the cookie asks: and sure enough, you can crunch through the direwolf of House Stark, the lion of House Lannister, and the three-headed dragon of House Targaryen. Or perhaps you like to stir up trouble and will pledge your cookie allegiance to the fourth design: the Night King. Whichever you choose, you can also enter Oreo’s contest by posting your choice on Twitter and Facebook using #GameofCookies and #FortheThrone to try to win a “special treat.” (If you can say “special treat” without doing your best Dude, Where’s My Car impression, you’re a better person than I.)
In the meantime, Oreo has teamed up with the company that created the original Game of Thrones opening credits to make a delicious, cookie-filled version animated from 2,750 Oreos. It’s not quite an epic Westeros battle scene, but it will tide us over for the last few weeks before the real fun begins.
