This Trader Joe’s Product Is My Secret Ingredient for Quick, Healthy Meals
Very few products hit all four quadrants of my grocery shopping goals: healthy, affordable, can be turned into a meal FAST, and delicious. Bonus points for things that are shelf or freezer stable, helping me create the patchwork between grocery runs when supplies start to go low. That’s why I’m so happy to have discovered Trader Joe’s Misto alla Griglia—a true mealtime superhero.
A bag of Misto alla Griglia (Italian for “mixed grill”) holds 16 ounces of perfectly grilled, lightly marinated, frozen eggplant, zucchini, and red peppers. Since discovering this product a few months ago, it has quickly become a required item for my pantry. I love that it gives me minimally processed, pre-prepared ingredients that are easy to turn into a big meal in just a few minutes.
Easy never tasted so awesome.

If I have time, I’ll put the vegetables on a sheet tray to melt a little before cooking them, but I don’t always remember. The easiest use (and a super delicious one) is just to dump them in a pot of tomato sauce, heat them through and serve them on pasta. That’s a 15-minute meal for you, with no less than FOUR vegetables. You’re welcome.
The seasoning on these vegetables is actually spot on—they’re perfectly salted, and the marinade has a pleasant flavor of oregano that doesn’t overwhelm. If you want to, they’re easy to zhuzh up by sautéing with a little garlic and olive oil, but they really don’t need it.
I’ve also dumped them on a sheet tray and put them under the broiler for a few minutes to defrost and help evaporate some of the water. Once they’re defrosted, the possibilities are endless. Use them as pizza toppings, or put them in a sandwich (Tip: I suggest adding a little pesto, tomato slices, and some fresh mozzarella for a very delicious vegetarian lunch). Mix them with farro or quinoa for a hearty grain salad, or even just eat them one their own, cold, out of the fridge when you realize you forgot to eat lunch until 3:30 p.m.
Don’t judge me.
