Taco Bell Offers Taco Bar Kits So You Can Invent Your Own Menu Items at Home

The old joke about Taco Bell is that the chain only has, like, eight ingredients and every new item is just a different configuration of that same stuff. (Maybe that’s why when Taco Bell added French fries, everyone lost their mind!) So have you ever wished you could hop over the counter and whip up your own new Taco Bell invention? Here comes your chance: For the first time, the Tex-Mex chain is about to launch “At Home Taco Bar” kits—and you can do anything with those ingredients that you want.
Starting tomorrow (May 1) to coincide with the upcoming Cinco de Mayo, Taco Bell will be selling these DIY kits nationwide via both delivery and contactless drive-thrus for a limited time. The chain explains the At Home Taco Bars come “deconstructed, packed and sealed” with enough food to feed a party of six for a recommended price $25. Admittedly, my first thought was that—in this era of social distancing—how many of us have five people to share this meal with? But then my second thought was that I always eat enough Taco Bell for three people anyway, so I’m sure it’ll be fine.
Each box contains eight flour tortillas, 12 crunchy taco shells, six ounces of nacho chips, seasoned beef, shredded lettuce, refried beans, nacho cheese sauce, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, reduced-fat sour cream, hot sauce packets, and napkins. And though I’m sure some of you are already crunching numbers in your head, for those who like to play by the book, Taco Bell will also start posting official recipes on the company blog starting May 3. Yes, you can finally learn how to properly make a Double-Decker Taco (as if I couldn’t make one from memory!).
But, obviously, the real fun from all of this is getting creative. And if you do, Taco Bell encourages everyone to share their new inventions with the hashtag #TacoBellCreations. Who knows—maybe you’ll achieve your lifelong dream of creating a Taco Bell item so excessive that Taco Bell bans the public from ever being sold their ingredients again!
