Morrisons launches new gluten-free essentials food box for isolating customers

The supermarkets have all been doing their bit to help customers navigate the coronavirus crisis. Morrisons has now addressed the problems facing those with food allergies and intolerances with the arrival of a new box. The gluten-free essentials box is available from Thursday 30th April.

The new box arrives just in time for Coeliac Awareness Week, which starts on Saturday 9th May.

It’s believed that one in ten people in the UK avoid gluten, while coeliac disease is a condition that affects at least 1 in every 100 people in the UK.

Coeliac disease is a condition where your immune system attacks your own tissues whenever you eat gluten. This then damages your gut, affecting your ability to take in nutrients.

With shelves often left bare by people stockpiling in the pandemic, Morrisons’ new box is aimed at those who are struggling to get hold of their free-from foods to help them avoid gluten.

The Morrisons Gluten Free Essentials Box costs £35, and is the seventh box to be launched by the supermarket as it helps to feed the nation.

The box includes essential ingredients including fresh produce, such as meat, vegetables and store cupboard items.

It will be delivered direct to customers’ doorsteps using DPD’s next day delivery service so that the public won’t have to wait long if they’ve run out of their allergy-friendly foods.

Many Britons are having to be ‘shielded’ due to long term health conditions and are therefore unable to go to the shops to pick up their groceries, or are going less often as they try to avoid the risk of the virus.
