McDonald’s is famous for its fries, which it has been selling since its launch in the UK in 1974. With the food chain experiencing hundreds of customers each day, popular items like chips are often made in batches and left under a heat lamp until they are ordered. One food blogger has shared an ordering hack to make sure you receive piping hot fries every time.
In an Instagram video, user Jonny Massad @cakemail orders two lots of fries, one with salt and the other without.
Jonny, from cake delivery business Cakemail, explains that if you order chips with no salt, they have to be made fresh.
This is because all batches come with salt as standard.
He explained: “Another Maccas hack, order chips without salt and they’ll be fresher than the ones with salt because they have to be made fresh.”
He then checked the temperature of both boxes of chips to see if the hack worked.
The chips that he ordered with salt measured at a temperature of 24.3C, while the freshly made ones were 36.9C.
Jonny added: “Just get the non-salt and put your own salt, and you’ll always have fresh chips.”

McDonald’s fans rushed to the comments and shared their thoughts on the ordering hack.
One person said: “This is so clever.”
Another wrote: “Works every time.”
“Never thought of this but I really want to try it,” said a third.
Others were less convinced of the hack, explaining that this takes up a lot of crucial time for the workers.
One commented: “This makes their job 10 times harder especially in busy periods, just ask for French fries.”
Another said: “You are that one annoying customer.”
McDonald’s reopened its dine-in areas yesterday as the country entered the third stage of Boris Johnson’s roadmap out of lockdown.
Customers are encouraged to order their food and drinks via the My McDonald’s App where possible, meaning customers can order from their table and have their food brought to them.
All customers are asked to wear a face covering when entering the restaurant and moving around inside, unless medically exempt.
Paul Pomroy, McDonald’s UK and Ireland CEO, said: “We are delighted to be re-opening our dine-in areas.
“Monday is another big step forward for both England and Wales, and we’ll be thrilled to see our customers dining-in and enjoying their meals with us – we know they have been eagerly waiting to get back.
“As the country starts to open back up more fully – so are we.
“We have not had people dining-in for several months, so while we know our restaurant teams are incredibly excited to welcome customers back to our dine-in areas, we also want to give them time to adjust to the enhanced safety measures and procedures in place that will protect our customers and our people.
“As we take this next step on the road to recovery, we know our restaurants and communities they operate in will continue to look out for each other. We are working closely with the Government, and while we are moving in the right direction – we know there is still some way to go, and we must all make every effort to keep each other safe.
“We appreciate that the measures in place mean the McDonald’s experience may be a little different to normal, and we are once again asking that our customers bear with us.
“Our customers’ patience and support has been fantastic as we have navigated various challenges over the last year, and that has been hugely appreciated by us all.”
