Marks and Spencer launches new wine range and it’s just £5 a bottle

The new This Is range plays on the company’s well known slogan, “This is not just food, this is M&S food”. Shoppers who are looking for a bargain bottle of wine will be delighted with the price of the new collection, with all of the bottles costing just £5, apart from the two non-vintage sparkling wines which are still only an impressive £6 per bottle.

Arriving just in time as the UK faces an extended lockdown due to the coronavirus, the top-value wines will be a welcome addition to customers’ baskets on their essential shopping trips.

The nation has had to enjoy their favourite tipples at home as pubs and bars remain shut across the country.

Created by M&S winemakers, led by Belinda Kleinig who has been with the brand since 2009, the range is very much designed with beginners in mind.

The new wines have “bright, helpful labels” to explain exactly what is inside so that novice wine drinkers can get to know the different grapes and styles.

The brand’s purse-friendly range covers all popular styles and includes varieties from all over the world.

Drinkers will be able to find French, Italian, Spanish, Chilean, Argentinian, Australian and South African wines from the This Is range in the food hall from this month.

M&S said the range is designed to offer guidance on taste, styles and grape varieties to help customers begin their wine journey, adding that those who are new to drinking it might otherwise find the wine aisle intimidating.

The simple labels feature descriptions such as “rich and smooth”, “bold and velvety”, “rich and spicy” and “soft and tropical” to give shoppers an idea of what to buy.

Offering something for everyone, the low-cost range includes six white wines, six reds, one rose, one sparkling white and one sparkling rose.

The sparkling white makes a great alternative for prosecco fans, with M&S describing the wine as an “elegant, crisp Italian sparkling wine with floral notes and hints of pear.”

Booze lovers will be pleased to see some of their usual favourites in the collection too.

The £5 bottles include Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Chardonnay and Malbec, with all of the wines being 2019 editions.

The good news follows the launch of a new twist on the brand’s bestselling Passion Star Martini earlier this week.

M&S released a new flavour for summer, delighting fans of the cocktails in a can with a new pink drink.

The new cocktail added raspberry to the existing passionfruit, vanilla and vodka mix.

The This Is wine range and Pink Passion Star Martini are available in stores now.
