Mana in Ancoats is a fine dining eatery offering up the best of British seafood where modern dishes are created with Nordic influences. The high-end place, owned by chef Simon Martin, is the first Michelin star restaurant to be open in the city since 1977.
Guests wanting to try out the new sample menu will be charged about £155 per person for a prepaid reservation for parties of one to four.
Bookings are already being made fast with dates in September and October already available to reserve in advance.
A Mana statement read: “There is so much to love about Mana, not least of which is the service; the team create a relaxed atmosphere, while at the same time letting you know that this is a place that’s serious about its food.
“Chef Simon Martin has spent years garnering experience and ideas from restaurants around the world and now brings this knowledge to Manchester.
“The room is modern, with an impressively high ceiling and immaculately laid tables set with bespoke earthenware and china.
“The smartly fitted open-kitchen is a reflection of Simon’s clear, unadulterated vision; here the chefs create exciting modern dishes with Nordic influences.
“These are packed with originality and, while at first they might appear simple, are complex in their delivery. The menu is a 12-16 course surprise which unfolds throughout the evening and is perfectly paced.”
To make sure diners are getting the best seasonal seafood, the new menu is subject to change but items listed for August are available to view.
Highlights from the menu include just-shucked scallop from the Shetland Islands with iced broth of skirt and roe and 100 percent outdoor raised Dexter beef with celtuce.
Other standout courses are the fillets of Devonshire blue mussel with garlic cooked for two months and raw oyster from Ireland with new dill, English wasabi, and macerated oyster leaf.
Almost 200 TripAdvisor reviewers have rated Mana as excellent and one diner from 2Chill gave five stars, praising the minimalist style.
2Chill user Susan Griffin said: “Admittedly, this isn’t going to be a spontaneous decision, but for a special occasion, splash out and have a meal at Mana.

“In 2019, Simon Martin’s eatery became the first restaurant in the city to receive a Michelin star since 1977. Although minimalist in style, it’s far from stuffy.”
