Getting dressed up to enjoy a fancy meal out with a city view was something we all undoubtedly took for granted pre-Covid. Thankfully, after 13 months of uncertainty and isolation, venues across London are starting to reopen from April 12. Not every single bar, restaurant or pub will be allowed to reopen though, with restrictions preventing indoor dining for a few more weeks. Here are some of the capital’s hottest destinations you need to hit up this April.

The Hawk’s Nest, Shepherd’s Bush

The Hawk’s Nest reopens its outdoor dining space and bar in Shepherd’s Bush on the 12th April.

The hidden outside garden, housed in a converted goods yard has the ideal layout for abiding by Covid restrictions with covered and heated outdoor tables ready for those chilly spring evenings.

They are launching a new agave-based cocktail menu, featuring lots of tequilas inspired by the team’s recent trip to Mexico. They have also been working on a new pizza menu with 50 percent of the menu now made up of vegetarian and vegan options.

Kitchen at Holmes, Marylebone

Marylebone’s favourite all-day dining destination, Kitchen at Holmes, is opening up its terraces for some al fresco fine dining on the 12th April and is celebrating with some delightful new additions to its menu.

With two terraces to choose from, Londoners can finally look forward to returning to the Baker Street hub and can either settle in for a romantic evening on the secluded rooftop terrace or meet friends at the restaurant’s heated terrace on the ground floor.

Kitchen at Holmes’ menu features a fusion of Modern European and Mediterranean influences, and with a set-menu priced at just £23.50 per person for two courses, or £26.50 per person for three delicious courses, you can’t afford to miss out.

The Refinery Bankside

Located on Southwark Street, in the heart of London’s Bankside and just behind the Tate ModernThe Refinery offers a stunning al fresco terrace where you can enjoy everything from an early morning coffee and breakfast through to dinner and late night cocktails. 

Roof East, Stratford

Stratford’s hottest destination, Roof East is back and ready to bring the best post lockdown party vibes of the summer.

The open-air adult playground, fit with plenty of booze and cuisine, has the brand new East London Bowls Club, Sluggers and the ultimate rooftop crazy golf course at Birdies for all to enjoy.

They’re also introducing two new food vendors from April 12, offering East Side Pizza and Cheeky Burger, before a third vendor, Kolkati joins from May.

Rudy’s Vegan Diner, Camden 

Located in the famous Camden Stables Market, Rudy’s Vegan Diner has plenty of outdoor seating and delicious veganised versions of classic American junk food.

Chow down on meat-free burgers and giant seitan hot dogs or live out the NYC Deli fantasy with Rudy’s Reuben – sandwiches stacked high with ‘pastrami’ between two slices of homemade rye. 

Bussey Rooftop Bar, Peckham

If it’s a venue south of the river you’re after, Peckham’s highest rooftop escape, the Bussey Rooftop Bar, provides the answer.

The alfresco rooftop bar with 360° sunset views of London not only offers ice cold speciality cocktails and craft ales, but is also a dog-friendly venue, meaning guests are welcome to bring their four legged friends to enjoy the view, as long as they’re kept on a lead.

With an especially curated soundtrack designed to get you dancing in your seats, Bussey will also be serving up mouth-watering pizzas ensuring you won’t leave unsatisfied.

Five Guys, various locations

If fine dining isn’t your bag and burgers and shakes are more your speed, you’re in luck. Five Guys will be reopening the outside dining areas of a number of UK-wide restaurants, including eight of their London stores.

From Monday 12th April, diners will be able to meet in a group of up to six people from different households, allowing them to place their order and then dine in one of the dedicated outdoor seating locations.

Their London restaurants with dine-out areas will be; Covent Garden, Oxford Circus, Tottenham Court Road, South Kensington, Chelsea, Portobello Road, Baker Street and Tower Bridge.

The Sipping Room, West India Quay

Relax and unwind on the expansive Thames-side terrace and enjoy creative cocktails from the dedicated outdoor bar like the Good Night Out; a refreshing mix of Tanqueray 10 gin, Crème de Mure, lemon, champagne & gold shimmer or why not try the London Spritz; Tanqueray gin, cucumber, elderflower, apple, sprigs of mint and lashings of soda.

Cosy blankets and hot water bottles are also available for those chilly nights.  

14 Hills, Fenchurch Street

To coincide with the reopening of terraces this spring, 14 Hills will be launching an exclusive alfresco terrace on the rooftop above the restaurant for the first time ever.

With 360 degree views across London’s iconic skyline, including The Shard, Tower of London, Tower Bridge and the River Thames, tables set alongside the beautiful flowers and trees on the rooftop, it’s bound to book up quickly.

The terrace menu will feature dishes that focus on modern British cooking with a touch of French flair, including Charcuterie and Fruit De Mer to share, light summer salads or even a Tomahawk steak.

The drinks list also features a wide selection of refreshing summer cocktails.

Blackhorse Beer Mile, Walthamstow

Signature Brew, Wild Card Brewery, Exale and Truman’s Social Club have come together to create Blackhorse Beer Mile.

The new destination is perfect for beer lovers wanting to try freshly-pulled pints straight from the source and will all be open with outdoor seating and food from 12th April.

The Parlour, Canary Wharf

Located in the Park Pavilion on Canada Square, The Parlour is a gorgeous bar & restaurant perfect for all-day drinking, dining and unwinding.

This stunning alfresco terrace, complete with its own bar and overlooking Canada Square Park, is the ideal location to enjoy an afternoon with friends over good food, fine wine and creative cocktails.

The Distillery Bankside

The Distillery Bankside is reopening from April 12th, and the bar, set near Southwark station has an entire section of the menu dedicated to over 100 different varieties of gin from across the globe.

The iconic destination bar will be serving delicious nibbles, sharing platters and a unique drinks menu all whilst welcoming guests in a vibrant and sophisticated setting throughout Spring.

The Wigmore Summer Terrace & Garden at The Langham, Oxford Circus

Opening on the 12 April at The Langham, London will be The Wigmore Summer Terrace & Garden.

The terrace has been connected with the hotel’s courtyard garden area to form one large dining space.

Set on Regent Street, the outdoor space been transformed into the ultimate city garden, complete with beautiful wooden benches and a newly erected pergola, adorned with climbing vines and fresh greenery.

Heaters and covered areas are also in place, meaning the unpredictable British weather won’t impact your experience.

BOXPARK, Shoreditch, Wembley and Croydon

From 12 April, BOXPARK is back with a refreshing al fresco dining experience as its Shoreditch and Croydon venues offer additional outdoor seating as well as the terrace areas, and their Wembley site boasting plenty of seating outside along Olympic Way.

All venues will run a full table service for food and drink, including its wide choice of street food traders and bars. 

The chain is also excited to announce a line-up of new street food traders joining its community as it reopens, including German Doner Kebab, Smashing Plates, The Clean Kitchen, Sunshine Hummus, and The Dessert Factory at its Wembley venue.

At the Shoreditch site, new independent lifestyle brands will be making an appearance including Berry Blossom, House of Henna, Green Machine CBD, and Solid Cologne, and BOXPARK Croydon is celebrating the opening of a new leisure concept.
